I've been trying to move into my new room for about the last year. Well, it's finally happening.

I plugged in the E-MU 1820M. So far, I'm impressed with the D/A. I'm here listening to "Harvest" by Neil Young and the Stray Gators. The stereo mix is fairly impressive. It's sort of laid back acoustic ear candy at times. I can see why it sold a lot of copies.

Somehow, my Cubase SX 2.0 dongle got bent. I'm not sure what happened. It still works.

I've got lots of songs to record. Hopefully, I can finish getting things set up this week and start recording.

Congrats...I challenge you to post pics, as I challenge myself! My place has been up and running for a little while now with the new floors, desk and new gear. But I've been slack about getting pics up.

Show me yours and I'll show you mine.

What made you choose the EMU? I know the price is pretty strong on that stuff.

I am super freakin' happy with my recording space... the drum sounds are killer on analog tape... I just recorded a jamband with an Ayotte kit, the drum tones rivals RHCP's Blood Sugar Sex Magic drums... yes, I even got a cool room sound.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that swings a hammer slow, when it comes to renovating the recording environment... my studio finally has a full working washroom, with a door !... the whole washroom was built from scratch... we had to run all new plumbing from the basement... I'm very happy with the results... there's even a shower for the sweaty drummers to clean up.

I need to post pics soon !
I will buy a digital camera soon... I should pick one up in Calais, Maine next time I go across the border.

The E-MU is here on an eval. I got a couple issues I'm trying to resolve with how it plays MP3s. They need to hire the RME driver dude. RME drivers are the best.

To my ears, the D/A on CDs sounds just a tad better than the Kurzweil Rumour. It's much more focused. I think it's comparable to the Lucid DA9624.

Right now, I'm spending most of my time on school stuff and live performance, but after this semester's over, I'll be beginning serious work on the second The Very Most record.

Here's a demo of one of my songs (there will be drums and other instrumentation in the real version). Don't judge it too harshly smile.gif :

I got the E-mu 1820. The A/D converters arent as good as the 1820M but Im really diggin the Patchmix. Ive owned it for almost a year and (probably because of lazyness) Ive only just begun to figure out how cool this thing is. =)

Tonight I'm checking out the new power amp with some David Bowie. The panning of the vocals in the chorus in "Changes" just knocks me out.

I got no idea what the issue is with Windows Media Player and the 1820m but I can't bother to figure it out. In essence, I got a life. I can't find anything in the knowledgebase at E-MU on this topic.

No such issues with Winamp. Welcome back old friend. smile.gif

The PatchMix DSP is kind of cool. It's got a monitoring section where you control the volume to the monitors only as well as the balance.

Right now, I'm listening to the "Preach Right Here" remix. It's sort of a dark mix. I'd love to cover this song.

what issue are you having with media player? I mostly use winamp (never left the old friend smile.gif ) so I havent noticed anything "weird" going on the few times ive used media player.

I'm only getting one channel when it plays MP3s and the level is so high it distorts.

Hey steve. check out http://www.productionforums.com/emu/
its an unofficial E-MU forum and this guy ICHI posts a lot there. I think he works for E-MU.

love the wall treatment... and here I was about to spend hundreds of dollars on drywall...

I have found that the vaperbarrier/isolation does not reflect sound back like other hard shiny surfaces...ie drywall... I've decided that the rooms sound, for now, was quite exceptable...in the meantime, I'm saving my dollars for wood treatment instead of drywall.

My recording room has wood treatment rather than drywall.

here is about as unsexy of a place you can record in. yeap there it is. i throw up a little material to control the very top end of stuff over the drums, the walls are thin, most bass passes right through. the amps go in other rooms in the shack. the sax bleeds all over the place....
