Anybody know of any Good Battery powered dual mic pres for doing some sampling in the feild? I am looking to spend around $200 to $600 for a good pre, so far i found an azden fmx 20 which i never heard of and a shure fp32 and sound devices mm1 and mp1. I heard that the shure is kinda noisy, but this is a new area of recording for me and i am not quitee so familiar with alot of the field mic pres and mixers. Anyone got any reccomendations?

I guess it depends on how critical the field recordings have to be... is this ENG/documentary or is this for music recording ?

A good thing about the Shure 3 channel joby is that it has a high pass filter on each channel... seems to be placed at around 100hz or so, quite a noticeable filter I must say.

They are a very popular field mixer with CBC tv, if you like the sound of ENG documentary on CBC, likely it could have been a Shure FP32 for field recording.

I heard one of my field mixes on the CBC the other day, and it sounded professional enough for TV.

Can't really comment on the azden fmx 20...?

Not at that price. Aim a little higher and look hard at the SOund Devices MixPre.

What kind of mic do you have.Sometimes matching impendance is important.

I own Rme Quadmic and Octamic. They are amaizing.
check rme-audio.com and I added a pdf manual here.

quadmic and ocvtamic are 4 and 8 channel class A solid state preamps with 60db of gain, phase switch,48v phantom power, very very very low noise and distortion.Seamless battery operation.
Check them out.
Tried double MS stereo as suround with the 4 channel quadmic.Works very well.
I think you can find info about double MS on the Shoeps or DPA sites.
