I'm going to put up a review this weekend. I've got some wav samples. If this unit is as good as the samples indicate, then Presonus might have done something right (again, after a bit of an absence in getting it right).

Hey Steve, I just purchased the Eureka the other day. I love it!!! I can only compare it to my Focusrite Penta, and I must say it's far better. I actually like the eq too. It sounds great on both my vocals and my acoustic/electric guitars. So far I'm quite impressed. I hope you post your review soon.

thanks for your input jeff. the review on the eureka comes from a gentleman with a fairly nice studio. so, he might own some very nice eqs that outclass the eureka. however, he did like the pre and the compressor. so, that speaks very well for a unit at the eureka's price.

Larry Crane over at TapeOp and of Jackpot studios up in Portland raved about the thing. Curious to get other thoughts.-Brian

I ask those guy's about it at Summer NAMM and they told me it was just a re-packaged VXP. However, I took a quick look at the specs and there appears to be some differences:
Headroom is less by 2 dB
The noise floor’s better by almost 15dB
There's 14dB more gain
Rather than having a separate (Smart) compressor/de-esser/expander, it's all in the "compressor" section. The eq looks to be more versatile.
Looks like it’s definitely worth a test drive.

I would like to give it a try. I'm always willing to try out inexpensive preamps. I sure wish I had one of those gigs where companies would send you free equipment for you to try out and review
