Full Version: Purging at Harmony Central and other forums

I was looking for something today on Harmony Central's Recording Forum and noted they've purged it again. They'd sort of kept their hands off for a bit but recently pulled the trigger. Only posts with a reply from February 17, 2004, to now survived. In essence, that's a one month lag.

I love the guys at HC and they've been great to me but they've purged out some great posts out of existence.

I set Mojo Pie's forums and newsire up with a provider that should theoretically never require me to purge posts. I just want you guys to know that when you post something that it'll be here over a month from now (and most likely years from now).

Hey Steve,
I can get their posts to go back as far as 07.01.2003. You have to go to the bottom to a tab that lets you change how far back you want the posts to view. It's set on default to go back 30 days, which is why it goes back to 02.17.04 for you. I took a screen shot of it to show you, but there isn't anything on these forums to post attachments... sorry frown.gif

it's better than last month but july 2003 is only eight months ago.

i wonder if they've archived stuff. i wish they'd put up an archive of the recording forum rather than only giving us a month or eight months.

I can't log on over there anymore. I contacted them they say I am a good ddobie and haven't been banned. But I need to lower my firewall to log in and that just ain't gonna happen.

As for purging the system, the same questions are posed there so often how much has actually been lost? It's got a serious down side I am sure, but HC is so big they would almost have to purge it would seem.

I was banned at HC.
I posted a link to a crazy site I found called "White Power Radio". I guess that's sufficient to be labeled a racist. Perhaps you're asking "If you're not a racist, how did you find a site about 'white power'?".
I don't remember. Probably a pop-up on some porn.

i knew you were banned but i never knew the story. i think people forget that musicians and recording people tend to be a little more outside the box when it comes to humor.

If you had posted a site to Black Power, you would have been celebrated, not banned. You would not be considered a racist, but enlightened.

Go figure.

It all depends on the sysop or the mods. It's his bat and ball, so at his whim he can throw a tantrum and tell you to go home.
