Full Version: I'm going hardwoods baby...!

I've been revamping my studio / room over garage, and when it came to a flooring decision all I knew was the commercial grade greenish crap had to go. The room I work in was originally the office to run the former owners business, so he put down garbage stuff.

Even cheap carpet is like $4 a sq. ft. installed (I am NOT installing carpet myself) and my room is 400+ sq. ft. Shane kept pushing me to go hardwood / laminate and I just placed my order. I am psyched! I never realized you can put down this type of flooring cheaper than carpet.

The laminate cost was $1.19 a sq ft, total cost to do a 430 sq ft space including quarter round and the connector going under my bathroom door and padding was just shy of $1k shipped.

We just got done installing 2 rooms worth of laminate flooring in his house, and installation is literally a snap and it looks great. Anyhow, my room will have a completely different vibe between this, new track lighting, the HVAC work I've had done (added a second intake and enlarged my duct work to 10" run straight to the wall...made my WWWWWHHHHEEEEESSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH into a hhhhaaa. The HVAC money by the way is the best purchase bar none in the past year as it made the biggest difference in my ability to produce a good product.

Another good purchase is my Omnirax Synergy 600 w/ dual rack setup which is en route (we became an Omnirax dealer while I was dealing with them on my desk) which is going to get rid of all the crap rack boxes perched around, the cheesy monitor stands my Mackies are sitting on, the Wal Mart shelf my monitors are sitting on and look well, more professional.

I'm spending more money than ever on my studio, and so far this year very little of it has been on gear!!

I've never understood how you can effectively mix with all your rack gear to the side like that. I guess you just have to run back and forth between your rack and your monitoring position.

I guess there are advantages to having a small amount of rack gear.

You might want to use a Rascal when the rooms get that large.

Steve........errrr.........no! I wish I could afford all that...

About the rack gear to the sides, where else should it be? You do have to leave the sweet spot to use it but guys that know their room have no problems with it.

Probably true. Anyway, I have so little rack gear, that my rack is right up by the speakers. I don't have to leave the sweet spot.

One of my friends who visited his studio told me the same thing. I've got a certain piece of gear here that came from GM's personal studio. smile.gif And, I ain't giving it up, ever.

Well, yeah, that's more important than the C37 lacquer.

Uh oh. Now everyone knows.
