I'm building a home recording studio (PC) and am looking at the Presonus firepod as my main unit. It comes with Cubase LE software. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Missy

My Firepod came last week but I haven't had the time to try it out yet. Give me a couple weeks and I'll give a preliminary report on it. I hope!

As for the Cubase LE, you'd have to ask someone else. If I can get the unit to play nicely with Audition, I'll be using that.

Ah well, I tried to install the Pod this morning, without success. Customer support at Presonus says I have (apparently) a ‘boot loader issue where the firmware needs to be flashed again from the factory.' Not a good recommendation for the unit, is it? But at least support seems okay...

geez, i dunno if this helps, but i have a firestation. the "old" firepod.

i hate it. LOTS of problems (driver/firmware issues abound). i understand that the firepod, by avoiding mLan, is supposed to address all the problems.

but looking at that post above, that seems like a VERY similar problem to what presonus had with the firestation.

in general, i think the hardware aspect of the firestation is pretty good for the price, but the firmware and driver issues render the hardware advantages moot.

again, no experience do i have with the firepod. but i would be careful round these presonus folks and audio interfaces...

Thanks for the info eeldip. Sometimes, I turn by TechTV and think back to your stint on there. You oozed geek coolness. smile.gif

Hi. I had a Firestation and the mLan Yamaha driver thing was a MESS! But, once you got it running it did sound pretty good.

The Firepod is nothing like the Firestation driver-wise. One tiny driver to install and that's it. I had no problem installing mine or using it to record 8 channels live for two hours straight with no glitches in Sony Vegas 4. I've read lots of other user reports and your experience seems to be the exception.

And as you said Presonus tech support is excellent. This is a great sounding box with good drivers, it's worth taking the time to get it running.

I wrote a detailed review of the unit you can check out here:

Good luck!

well, even though it was a failure, i did learn quite a bit about how cable TV works.

[lets see, compose 9 original songs per week, 8 hours of taping, however many hours of rehearsal, and your offer is $100 a week!]
