OK, so say I have a few pre amps or channel strips that give me either analog line out or SPDIF/AES and I want to plug them into an 8 channel ADAT interface in my FW-1884. Can anyone tell me what items are needed to connect seperate line outs or SPDIF to an 8 channel ADAT connection. Can this be done?
My guess is...A/d converter (eg ApogeeA/D) then something that converts Digital to ADAT format. But what are these units?
Thanks
Mick

I could be wrong but doesn't an ADAT take analog line level inputs and convert those to digital for storage on tape? I know data can also be transferred in & out digitally via SPDIF.
Did you read the manual?
Manual? For my machines I do have Snakes that are SPDIF on one end and 1/4 inch on the other.
The Signal is converted by the the machine. I do not use any external converters.

Hi cool_e
I was talking about getting ADAT 8 channel lightpipe into my FW-1884. The trick was converting Analog into Adat lightpipe. ADAT is a format of digital message and I am looking for the conversion unit.
Hi J6P
I am looking to remove the conversion from the FW-1884 to get a higher quality.
Thanks to both for the answers.
I have since found that teh Apogee Rosette series does what I want it to do. Also the Presonus Digimax lt does it too.

The RME Multiface will do it as well. Sounds like you're getting on the right track with it, you need an analog to digital converter that outputs to ADAT, most any box you find will have 8 ins and 8 outs which matches the ADAT format up to 48k format.
