I hear these are going for $100 for the GT33 and $200 for the GT44. Dan Richards from The Listening Sessions likes these a lot and I know he had just about every small and medium instrument condenser on the planet at one time on loan.

For those of you who don't like the "C" word please be warned they are made in China.

There are none in OKC. comp.gif

The 44's are supposed to be better, I know, but whaddya think, is one $100 better than the 33, or are two 33's better than one 44? That's a toughy.

Well, if I bite, I'm probably going to get a pair of the GT33. My favorite GC salesman will look for me on Monday what they have in the other stores. Maybe, I'll get lucky. If I were going to spend $400 on something then I'd spend it on something else besides a pair of instrument condensers but $200 for a pair is hard to pass up.

The older I get the more I'm into instrument mics. smile.gif

I've spent a lot of time reading posts about these mics and decided to go with the GT33 for a couple of different reasons.

First, I'm not a fan of the extra power supply for each mic.

Second, I think somewhere Dan Richards posted up about of all the instrument condensers he looked at in the famous shot from The Listening Sessions. I can't find a picture of all the mics right now but there were more in one location than anywhere on the planet at one time. And, Dan made the statement that out of all those great mics that was thinking about getting a pair of the GT33.

My Guitar Center dude got on the computer today and tracked me down a pair of the GT33 so I'll be getting them in about 10 days. smile.gif

I've not tried the 33 but I had a 44 here for a weekend. I liked the sound a lot but the build quality wasn't there for what they were asking for them at the time. I couldn't justify as much or more than the Josephsons for the little refinement things that kept bugging me. I don't even remember the specifics now but that was my big hang up at the time. Really did like the sound though...

However, for $200 it is a totally different story and I would pick them up in a heartbeat if I needed a pair of small diaphragm mics. Well, mid-diameter if we're getting picky.

My GT33 mics should be here this week. I'll let you all know what I think.

How did you think the "build quality" compared to other Chinese mics?

I think the build quality is the best I've seen for a Chinese mic. I'd say before the best was Studio Projects. And, I thought their build quality was quite a bit better than the rest I'd experienced. I wouldn't put either up on the Audio-Technica or Shure level.
