Behringer ECM8000 (not a huge fan like many seem to be)

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of my pair of these except on tamborine. They're also pretty passable on drum overhead in some cases. Especially if you don't need a real aggresive drum sound. Any quiet source is out for these mics because they have so much self-noise.

I'm jonesing for a pair of Earthworks TC30Ks or SROs.

Some of this stuff is from my live rig, rather than recording, but since they overlap I'll list 'em all...

Oktava MK319 (2)
CAD / Global Audio GXL1200
Sony ECM-330
BSR...I don't know the model, it doesn't say on it!
Electar SR-5800
Audio-Technica MB2000L (3)
Realistic 33-983

I also have access to my GF's SM57. Alway date girls with mikes. wink.gif

The EV's are the easist for self recording BTW.

Planning adding at least a RE20 eventually...

IIRC cominginsecond, you have the Peavey PVM 520i, which is quite a nice
sleeper for general usage.

What's IIRC stand for?

I thought it was just the PV. Thanks for the info, Chris. I like it pretty well for live use and on toms. I also use it as a talkback mic because it's the only mic I own with a switch.

Actually, I just checked it out, and it is not the 520i that I have. It is literally just the PV. It's a pretty old mic. I'd guess it was new in the late 80s. It's not that great, but it's OK for live vocal use and on toms in a pinch.

That's about it.... I'm going to get a good LDC for vocals soon (probably a C1 or C3, but not positive yet) and a better low-frequency mic, such as the Red5 Audio RVD1.
cominginsecond
You don't like your 414 on vox?
88fingers
Oh, it's fine on vocals, but I mostly use it as a distant mic for the kick drum.

I don't know if this qualifies as a 'list' biggrin.gif but:

We've talked about this in another thread but I wouldn't mind adding a larger diaphram or hypercardoid mic to the 'collection'.

if i were you i would ditch the nt1 on ebay and get something like a 441 if you want a hypercardiod. it will be a nice different flavor from your other mics. with such a small collection having both the ksm44 and the nt1 seems a bit silly.

or another hypercardiod that rocks is the beyer m160/260.

i have bad sounding rooms, and hypercardiods really improved my recordings...

this changes just about every day but...

condensers:
earthworks SRO, earthworks SR69, CAD e300, CAD m179

dynamics:
ev 666 x2, ev 408, sm57, senn 441, beyer m380, senn 835, stedman n90, some cheapos for live and backup.

ribbons:
RCA SK-50, beyer m260

crystal:
NONE. must fix this.

other:
*realistic "reverb" mic (tiny spring reverb inside mic casing)
*grundig stereo mic (cool 70's tape recorder mic, one great sounding capsule, one off sounding one)
*AKG D88 (pretty 60's stereo mic, one broken element, looks like a spaceship)
*Sony "flat mic" (pseudo-PZM, electret mic)
*telefunken td26 (lo-fi dynamic for tape recorder. cool lookin, cool soundin)
*generic intercom speaker/mic (home made effect mic)
*contact mic (everyone needs a contact mic, tape it to a duct for reverb)
*army surplus "dynamic mic element" from army phone. custom mounted in copper toilet bob.

Thanks for the lead on the sennheiser 441. That is a 'The Jeffersons' looking mic (60's meets space exploration) if I ever saw one!

You're right about the rode and ksm, if I knew then what I know I wouldn't have ended up with both. It just happened where I started off with the rode and then got more and more into recording. I'll probably keep it around longer since I'd like to record both vox and acoustic guitar at the same time and try to keep the sounds (somewhat) on different tracks. In my experiences the NT1 sounds good as long as you're not trying to mix the sound in with a lot of other music (ie it can work with just acoustic and vox).
eeldip
just buy the 441 used (it is WAY too much new. handmade in germany...) and have a preamp ready to give you a lot of gain and sound good while you do it.
Chris Del Faro
Another sleeper to keep an eye out for is the AT 3527 omni.
Good vocal mic and reputed to be excellent on acoustic guitar.

Alright, I'll give in to this fetishistic ritual.

2 Oktava MC-012 (cardioid only, but I'm probably gonna get a hyper and an omni cap soon)
2 Behringer ECM-8000
Beyer M-88TG
2 Stedman N-90
EV PL-10
EV PL-5 (which is the same as a . . . )
EV 635a
Shure 315 ribbon (deceased)
Beyer M-101 (the omni version of the 201)

I've usually had no problem getting hands on SM-57's and 58's when needed, but have never actually owned them. Maybe the whole Unidyne mystique is why I've held off from just getting a new 57, but the 54_ series seem more interesting now.

I hope so. I can take a chance on $45, considering they have been sellling recently for $75.

I also recently won a Countryman DI, but the (zero feedback) seller turned out to be a flake. She refuses to disclose her name, address and phone number, has an unregistered PayPal account, and refuses to send COD. She waited days to respond at all, blaming a "down computer." I notice a peculiarity in the language of her few emails, indicating a foreigner. So... I will welch the deal. After my last affair with a deadbeat seller, I have no urgency to rush into another one.

The Beyer seller appears to be on the up and up, so I will PP as soon as he sends the shipped total. He is in WA and I'm in CA, so it should get here quick.

Yeah, going the quality over quantity route allows me to focus on the music more than what gear to use...and in the end, sound better. cool.gif

Wishlist... A nice stereo mic or stereo pair. A stereo ribbon is what I really want... to fill the ribbon and nice stereo pair void in my setup in one go.

I'll also probably pick up another B1 some day.

Then I'd just like to add on to my collection slowly with moderate priced funky mics like old EV's, maybe some MXL 603's (as much as I hate the 2 MXL's I already own... I am curious to try these) and such.

I'd like to pick up a 421 (a u47 and c12) for reference.

Yep, backup and live use is mostly what I had in mind -- the mikes I already had are probably better for most recording apps. The deal was good and the CADs kind of round out my 'basics.'

I didn't know Stedman made so many mics. I looked them up on the bay. Heres the only one I found.
