The band, "Seventh Rize" is a kick-butt rocker group based out of West Texas....(and yall just thought we played goober country....
Anyway, the producer tried like the dickens to install his DAW onto one of our facilit's Mac G4 duals....no luck...ended up using the producer's Macpro notebook (which we should have done in the 1st place.)...
Took 3.5 hrs to test various drums mic combinations, ended up with some unorthodox but killer stuff:
Kick - Beta 52
Snare - Beta 87C
Rack Toms - EV 757 and EV 454
Floor tom - AT 831
OHs - Josephson C42s in XY 6 ft up and slightly behind drummer
Room - pair of Cascade Fatheads
Strangley, producer used the pres from a Firepod we have laying around for most of the drums....the room mics were from a pair of P1s (this is where I started becoming insistant)...
Bass - DI only thru REDDI
Gtr 1 - close mic Sm57/Pacifica - distant mic ADK A51 Ser III/P1
Gtr 2/leads same setup
Both gtr players playing (sigh) 50 watt Marshalls....all gtrs and bass at same time, plenty of isolation and rejection from mic positioning...
Lead vox - Joly modded 319 thru Pacifica
Back up vox/chorale (if you will) C42s as room mics into Pacifica
Here's the kicker - the final draft before everything was struck down had NO compression, EQ, effects of any sort...just panning...and it was one of the most powerful, ballsiest rock songs I've ever HEARD, much less been a part of ....
I'll be posting pics as soon as they are cleared by the artist/producer...clips will have to be provided by the TV network (or just watch the show)....
It was a blast, it was the hardest I've worked in a long time, and it was an educational experience for everyone...kinda nice to teach some high end old dogs a few new tricks....
