feeling the need to use oodles of mics when one would do.
you do not always need multiple mics, i have recorded guitar amps, acoustic guitars ( as well as other instruments ), with a single mic.

I've made fairly good multitrack recordings with a single SM58 clone. It can be done.

I've never been a fan of throwing one mic up in front of a bunch of instruments. Ribbons can handle this best in my opinion but I'm still not a fan even though I am a fan of "let it bleed" mic'ing where you put the rhythm section in the same room.

mostly, thinking about a single mic on a single source, as opposed to mics, for multiple sources, or a project.
i see guys wanting to use three, and four mics, on a single source, and i just do not always see that as needed.
not to say that it may not be useful, or even at times wanted, i just feel for the most part, one, or two, would be more then adequate, certainly sufficient.
i hope that make a bit more sense? sigh.gif as to what i meant.

i do, like to try, and mic everything.

I'll use as few open mics as I can get away with...I know Bruce Swedein and others like to multi-mic everything, and while no one can argue with their successes, its just not something I can warm up to....

Its really a game of smoke and mirrors....I tracked a rock band last week using my version of the Glyn Johns setup, but had dummy mics on every drum (top and bottom)...IMO one decent or better mic in the right place trumps 5 great mics in the wrong place.
