Full Version: Mic Repairs?
Mojo Pie > Talk and News > All about microphones

My trusty AT4041 has developed a nasty hum...annoying, rendering the mic worthless until repaired.

I've checked the AT return process, and even though it seems simple enough, I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas other than returning to the manufacturer....Its not a collectible nor vintage, so Sank, Klaus, and the other wizards are out of the picture (unless they can do something to make this a KM84 in a AT wrapper....)

Any other options? Any other thoughts? I don't want to spend more in repairs than it costs to replace....

I'd go with AT's repair.

But, you do raise an interesting opportunity for some young man or woman out there. Somewhere, out there, is someone who will be the Audio-Technica mod and repair guru. Did the late Stephen Paul ever see that one coming?

I don't know if there's any weird issue with the 4041 being an electret capsule. It might make things complicated to try to go to an externally-polarized retrofit.
