I'm hoping we can get some makers (hi, mid, low, whatever) to give us all some insight as to the process of not just manufacturing, but marketing, market research, niche appeal, whatever....
With that in mind....what do you mic making guys think?
I'll even start the 1st question: non technical, who are you, how and why did you get into the mic biz?

Hi everyone! Ken asked me to contribute to the forum. I started Pearlman Microphones about five years ago after having owned and run a professional recording studio for almost thirty years. I owned almost one hundred mics including a very early pair of C12s and a 1959 U47; I also had one of the largest ribbon mic collections in L.A. You find out early in the studio biz how expensive it is to keep a tech on call. I learned out of necessity how to troubleshoot and repair my console, outboard gear and mics. After a while I started tinkering and decided to make a mic of my own. People in the studio used it and wanted me to make more and this is how all of this started. I sold the studio and all the vintage gear and started the new mic company. I now have a few different models with different options and I'm looking forward to the future! Please contact me anytime if you have any questions. Thanks... Dave Pearlman 818 989 4549 www.pearlmanmicrophones.com

Not sure what Peter meant except that maybe I am a Teddy Bear...Who can tell? Anyway.... pan60: I find that word of mouth is really the best bet even though I do use ads from time to time.
