how many 500 format gear-heads do we have here?
as many of you probably already know, the 500 form, is a passion of mine.
so, i want to see if anyone here was into the system yet!

I want to be a 500 freak, but I can't justify the buy-in yet as I'm just back out of school and working.

The offerings are sweet, though:

A-Designs
API
Avedis
Buzz Audio
Chandler
Daking
Great River
JLM
LaChapell
Old School Audio
Purple Audio
Shadow Hills
Speck
Vintage Designs
[Pimp sites only used when I couldn't get a manufacturer site--not intended as any sort of endorsement or recommendation of dealer.]

Probably more, but I understand many have announced products that haven't hit the market. I believe old Aphex modules are also 500-rack sized. And you know I like old Aphex products.

If you get the full 10-11 space rack, generally the initial buy-in starts paying off as you get more modules compared to getting individually racked products. There are great choices for the "one good pair" mic pre approach, as well as a broad spectrum of different shades to supplement with. Now if only someone made Helios-styled gear in a 500 form factor. (The eq, too, and I think the Compex was from Helios or an affiliated company.)

How can 500 series get cooler than it already keeps getting with new modules? Pan60, you got some 'splainin' to do.

i am still waiting on Avedis to send me his new pre pbanana.gif for review, and i am supposed getting one any day and i should be getting some of the JLM stuff, but i ask them to hold off until after the first of the year, as i have to much on my plate as it is.
the Aphex stuff will work but it seems some pin changes my need to be made, nothing major, Jeff is suppose to be getting me the information.
the Chandler GERM 500 showed up yesterday for review, coffee.gif i will be playing with it for a while.
i have a couple compressors on their way for BETA testing and a pre, at least that is what i am told.
can't say anything about them just yet. frown.gif
the best time ever to get into the format, such a hugh selection!
