While they have achieved ALMOST cult staus in some circles, i was able to find a 1974 16 channel PM-1000 mixer at Guitar Center, Used of course, for 150 bucks. ]

Physically, theres nothing special about the board, except its weight, almost 140 lbs, and cased in rosewood. you really need two people to move it. So it sits atop my outboard rack and provides 16 of the most divinely transformery thick preamps in a ridiculously huge package.

The board ships with only 4 outputs so i had to run transformer balanced direct outs on the last 8 channels and kept the first 8 sent to the 4 subgroups, so i guess i can really only use 12 channels at once individually but good lord are they killer channels. Inductor based EQ transformer coupled inputs and outputs, Im in Iron Heaven.

I'm thinking about racking the unit, its just too huge. ill post some pictures of it when i get a chance.

Take care guys!

Chris

Good deal! You can pay the same or more for others in that series that aren't as desirable (IC opamps, lower headroom input transformers.) Then again, in weight terms, none of these are particularly desirable . . . . Yeah, it's a big mother, but in one piece the 1000 is supposed to be so damned good at what it does that it seems a shame to hack it up. Then again, I'm surely going to hack my 700 before I move again--not as cool, and while it's more compact it's not by much.
