Where is everyone? They are doing more important things than reading about audio gear. The guys without a life are posting heavy elsewhere.

Today, I spent the afternoon with the fabulous Byron Berline who is one of the greatest fiddle players ever and my 13 year old daughter, who was looking for a new bow. It's so awesome listening one of the best ever just a couple feet away. Anyhow, he was very kind to my daughter. He even let her play his own personal violin. Wow. Someday she'll realize just how cool it all was. The new bow is way cool too.

Well..I have been working 7 days a week. I can't wait for this job to end.

No time for much. Recording has been out of the question.

Fairly interesting project though. Here's a link if anyone is interested.

I hope y'all are well.

good to see people are still alive...

Me? Thanks for asking....We were innundated for a while, things slowed down a touch now...enough that we are taking a few days vacation mid December....

Voiceovers for 3 regional and one national TV ad, one complete and a start on a second for a nationally signed Tejano act;;;;things like that.

Welcome, Spoke!

What's the mic?

I keep my mics in their cases in a pretty nice cardboard box, but I'm looking to change that.

it's an RCA that needs to be re-ribboned. but i think it may have some other issues as well.

I bet you could feel the reverberation vibrating or tickling the seat as it travels thou air and thou the floor.

The company Enak is the old reliable for re-ribboning and repairing RCA's. If it's not a 44, a 77, or a BK-5, then some people who feel enterprising enough would try re-ribboning themselves, and maybe would see if time has improved on the original transformers. Some links on this:

The daughter's a fiddler? Another talented young'n to show up all us old guys...

Well, on the subject of fiddlers -- segue here -- maybe someone out there would like to take a gander at the vids here: http://uk.youtube.com/user/meanmary80 . That would be my own talented relative, Mean Mary James, playing the heck out of her fiddle. (There's a clip Mary shot of her ol' Uncle Steve there too, but you might want to ignore that one!)

I'm as busy as the next guy -- assuming the next guy is doing something right now -- in and out of my so-called studio, and trying to get an online literary magazine off the ground.

cool, thank you. smile.gif

I am here (or any recording site) very seldom anymore. I just don't get into my studio that often. I have had to cut WAY back on VO's since I am traveling so much for work and the time I am home there is always a family thing to do. I am doing a couple projects over Christmas vacation but it is few and far between unfortunately.

I'll try to pop in more often.

Greetings fellow recording "heads"! tongue.gif

Been lurking for a bit, busy as hades at work, but I'm on vac until jan 3 08. Hope to spend some time with the gear over the holidays after the 25th. Lots of good information here, I've been seriously researching DIY comps lately, just can't afford an original UA or Fairchild. Anyone here into home brew preamps/comps etc?

cheers -Mach

Hey, Mach!

What flavor of comps are you looking for, how intrepid is your DIY (scaled from kit to scratch build), and what kind of budget? I can't imagine the Project of the Month for January will be that complex of a project, but if you're aiming cheap and simple enough, I might try to do it as a future month's project.

Hello,

I'm new here. And greetings to all.

Hello Wireline. smile.gif

Michael!!!!

Thanks for stopping by and joining our little party. Like I mentioned, you will find a wide scope of music and gear related discussion, and the only real issues are when to use an SM57 vs a U47 vs an API vs ...well, you get the idea.

Your secrets are safe with me, BTW...and I win. bigdance.gif

Welcome, Michael!

you do know that dancing puppett is really me, from my younger days, don't you?
pan60
lol
i was just telling a friend, it seems i got more work accomplished twenty plus years ago as a hung-over, three pack a day smoker then i do know,
and i stopped all the drinking, and smoking, and running.
it seems jobs i could do in a weekend now take for ever.
that little puppet is always on the move!
