Full Version: Sell Tampa, DMP3 & VTB1 to buy Blue Robbie?

Hi. I've just seen the Blue Robbie preamp on ebay for $599. Would this preamp be worth me selling my Tampa, DMP3 and VTB1? Is the Blue Robbie gonna be significantly better than what I already have?
Would I be putting all my eggs in one basket and be better off keeping what I already have for different flavours and flexibility?

Thanks

I never see anyone raving about that one. I assume you're talking Buy-it-now on that deal. Might be able to find a used Great River ME-1NV for that kind of scratch or for a little more--there's one that's hovering about $520 right now, though days to go. I'd say that's a good single pre channel if you are to have just one--sounds great, competent or better on about anything and a bit of flexibility. I'd shoot for something of that sort of quality and flexibility; the John Hardy MP-1 also comes to mind.

Trading in 4 channels for one, well that depends on how you work.

i agree
if you can swing it the Great River really delivers, a great pre in my humble view.
i did a review on the Great River MP-500NV and loved so much, i called and said hey, heres my C.C. number, but don't tell my wife bigdance.gif
very sweet pre.

I can infallibly say, with absolute certainty, that it depends...

As Bear mentioned, is one pre gonna cover it? Even if you had an original Jensen 990, if your mics, AD, and sources are not up to snuff, then it might be worth reconsidering. Been my experience that there is no single magic bullet, only weakest links (sorry about mixing metaphors until the cows come home...)

I decided to keep the Tampa and DMP3. I'm really happy with both of these and am not in a hurry to upgrade them!!

I would have to say good choice....when it is time to upgrade, you'll know it and do it without hesitation or anyone's opinion.
SOunds cliche, I know, but that's been my experience.
