Everyone in this country must wear a seatbelt when riding in a car. It's the law. Yet, our politicians force us to pay higher taxes for welfare to motorcyclists who suffer severe injuries because they choose not to wear a helmet.

IIRC, Texas requires that if you don't wear a helmet, you have a high amount of insurance to cover your injuries or you post a bond or such. Still likely to be inadequate in the worst cases.

The anti-helmet activist quoted in the story is a moron. So what if cars are "the cause" of most accidents? They are with bicycle accidents as well, at least fatal ones, which happen here in Austin altogether too frequently. So I'm not going to where a bike helmet because it's their fault and not mine? I'm sorry, there's no comfort in being in the right when you're dead or brain damaged.
