Interesting - I've never seen that model. Any info for us?

I looked them up on Google Groups and I found a post by Ty Ford on these. Maybe he'll give us his experience.

The assumption is that they have lost some of their charge. Does anyone in the group know of a simple fix for this, or are they destined for the museum?"

I understand these to be electret omnis from the 1970s.

Unless the side grills are a fake decorative feature, the way those are vented indicates directional mics.

I've heard people who know more than me say the electret fade-out is a myth. Most electrets probably never had the equivalent output of an externally polarized condenser capsule at 48v, so that might be part of what makes people believe it.

Upon more reading I've seen these referred to as omni and cardioid.

Cardioids actually, early 1970s. We used them as on-air mics at WHFS-FM in DC for a number of years. I think they were +/- $100 each when I bought the pair. I remember them as being quite the bargain. Still have 'em and yes, they are still noisy.
