This is REPREHENSIBLE! The waving of prevailing wage to those recently hit by Hurricane Katrina is the most heinous thing I can imagine, and is a slap in the face of those who would work to rebuild their communities.

That the work was quickly appointed to contractors without going to bid is almost understandable. The work must begin as quickly as possible.

That the usual suspects got the work (Bechtel, Halliburton, et al) is no surprise.

In waiving the rights garranteed under Davis-Bacon, Bush has told the people of the Gulf Coast that they are not worth the money, that they so badly need, to rebuild.

Are the contractors going to charge less? Are they going to provide the Health and Welfare, Annuity and Pension benefits that the prevailing wage would have compenstated for? Hell, I bet they don't even pay the hourly wage before benefits.

This is unacceptable. The People of the Gulf Coast need the money. Not Bush's Friends. Not Cheney's cronies. Not the share holders of these corporations.

This is Construction. Potentially very dangerous work, that requires skilled professionals, to ensure it be performed correctly, and safely. The people who do this work deserve to be compensated fairly, under normal conditions. In my opinion, even more so after having lost so much, and faced with rebuilding their lives.

I would encourage anyone and everyone to contact their representatives to tell how they feel about this latest assault on working Americans By our President.

What a Dick!
